SNL’s New Satire of Palin’s Latest Interview:
A Medicinal Tonic After the Real Thing

The real Sarah Palin during CBS
interview this week by Katie Couric
Anyone believing that laughter is indeed the best medicine may have found a margin of relief during Saturday Night Live’s encore satire last night of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, following the anguish induced by her revealing interview earlier this week by CBS News anchor Katie Couric.
The interview left many supporters dismayed by the candor of Palin’s often shallow answers, and non-supporters dismayed at the very prospect of such a candidate co-inheriting the disastrous mess left behind by the current White House occupant.
SNL’s surprise hit satire of the Republican vice presidential candidate two weeks ago was one tough-as-arctic-ice act to follow. But I suspect that last night’s encore performance by Tina Fey as Palin and the versatile Amy Poehler as Couric still was enough to arouse hearty chuckles even from the stodgiest of conservatives.
For those who missed either the SNL segment or the actual CBS interview, both are posted below. Since she tends not to reveal much of substance during her limited interviews, the folks over at the Center for American Progress have compiled an excellent “Sarah Palin Digest” that provides a quick, well-documented overview of her actual record on specific issues.
NOTE: To truly appreciate the humor of SNL’s performance, I highly recommend watching CBS’ three-part interview, posted on the next page (link below SNL clip).
